Photographing such a rare animal as the Kingfisher out in the wild, let alone finding it at all, is not an easy task. Where do you start looking? To just wander around blindly simply doesn't work. So the first step was to find out about it’s habitat and behaviour.
It quickly became clear that he was at home along rivers where he could find hides from which he could plunge into the water at lightning speed to catch fish. Furthermore, it was interesting to know that the birds spend the winter in mild winters in Europe and do not, like many others, migrate south.
When that was cleared up, it was now time to find such a place. There are hardly really known places with 100% guarantee - and even if they are (fortunately for the animals) well kept secrets. So we had to try ourselves to find such a place. But that would be more difficult than we thought...
